The University of the Philippines (UP) was named top 95 educational institution in the latest Times Higher Education Asia University Rankings (THE AUR), the first time the country’s state university ranked in the top 100 list of the London-based publication.
THE university ranking also puts UP in the 4th spot among Southeast Asian universities.
UP has been ranking in the THE World University Rankings (WUR) since 2017, reaching the Top 156th Asian university in 2018.
UP’s current ranking in THE rankings released in May, places the state university in the upper 23 percent of 417 universities from 27 countries for 2019.
THE WUR evaluates educational institutions evaluated based on 13 performance indicators grouped into the following areas:
- teaching (the learning environment)
- research (volume, income and reputation)
- citations (research influence)
- international outlook (staff, students and research)
- industry income (knowledge transfer)
UP remains the Philippines’ top-ranking university as one of only five universities from Southeast Asia in the top 100, with two from Singapore and the other two from Malaysia.
