University of the Philippines (UP) Cebu startup Payruler is offering a locally-developed Human Resource Management System (HRMS) which automates administrative tasks to help employers and HR practitioners focus on building a better workplace for their employees.
Payruler, housed at the Cebu Business Incubator in IT (CEBUINIT) in UP Cebu supported by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), is a comprehensive and customizable HRMS that can process and handle all the granular HR concerns and issues of business with a payroll system built for the Philippines.
The software is the most complete HRMS in the country, covering an employee’s entire life cycle from the beginning of the hiring process to their retirement.
Co-founder Timmy de Jesus says that Payruler was developed to minimize the manual work of HR staff, allowing them to be more strategic business partners instead. She shared that a “study from Stanford School of Business indicated that 60% of the time of HR staff is spent on administrative tasks and other filing activities, while only 40% is devoted to actual creation of strategies and planning for the company.”
De Jesus said the HRMS supports a web log-in feature for Employee Self-Service ideal for alternative or work from home arrangements for employees during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Additionally, Payruler has customizable modules such as:
- Hire for Recruitment
- Identify for Employee Information
- Track for Timekeeping
- Compute for Payroll
- Employee for Self-Service
- Analyze for Analytics Purposes
Payruler is also available as a mobile application that can be downloaded by employees to check their payslip, leaves, loans, and more.
The company also developed WeTrace, a contact tracing application in their current services.
“Some of our clients are asking us when we go back to the office after all the work from home stuff, how can we ensure that our employees are safe? That is the reason why we would like to integrate WeTrace in our app to add another layer of protection of the employees of our client,” explained de Jesus in the DOST report published on October 5, 2020.
The tech startup was conceptualized in 2014, headed by Jojo de Jesus of Genii Hut Technologies and his daughter, Timmy de Jesus. According to Payruler’s website, the small business now has over 100 clients nationwide.
The UP Cebu startup received a grant from the DOST for predictive analytics.
UP Diliman-incubated startup Cloop Technologies is helping communities upcycle plastic wastes.
The DOST is also funding more local research initiatives and technologies giving hope to Filipinos amid the COVID-19 pandemic, such as studies on traditional herbs Tawa-tawa and Lagundi as treatments for the novel coronavirus, as well as the virgin coconut oil (VCO) studies which have yielded promising results as a potential antiviral agent against the COVID-19 virus.
