National Geographic (NatGeo) listed four spots in Bohol province with great restaurant food treats for travelers.
The prime tourist destination in the Visayas islands of the Philippines was given the spotlight in Nat Geo Travel’s “Where to eat in Bohol” feature in August.
Noting Bohol as best known for the iconic Chocolate Hills which Nat Geo previously featured as among the World’s Most Wild Beautiful Places”, as well as for its coral reefs, writer Nicola Trup writes, “But where should you eat while exploring? We share our tips for four restaurants across the island.”
National Geographic lists the 4 restaurants it recommends:
Saffron at Amorita Resort
Nat Geo’s Trup writes of her excitement at the Filipino classic dishes offered at the Saffron, mentioning sizzling Sisig pork mascara, steaming Sinigang pork soup dish, crispy banana and jackfruit Turon, and the Tuna Kilawin which the writer refers to as “The Philippines’ answer to ceviche. The sun-soaked combination of bite-size pieces of tuna, mango, red onion and tomato, ‘cooked’ in the juice of a local citrus, calamansi, is fresh, tangy and addictive. Now, that’s the kind of food I want poolside.”
The Buzzz Cafe at Bohol Bee Farm
The Alona Beach spot was lauded for its honey and bee-related products, and the ice cream which evoked praise as “the avocado flavour is dreamy”. “Sit on the open terrace for views out to sea, and order a cassava taco with fish, washed down with lemongrass juice,” adds Nat Geo Travel’s Trup.
Food & Fables by the Loboc River
“The menu here is fresh and hearty, with a large range of veggie options (try the green papaya salad), alongside meaty dishes including Bicol express – a local speciality of pork in spicy coconut cream. The setting is pretty special too,” says Nat Geo Travel.
Dalareich Chocolate House
The London Academy of Chocolate’s gold-award winning Bohol chocolate of Dalareich Chocolate House was noted for “Belgian-trained chocolatier — the eponymous Dalareich — at the helm.”
The first chocolate factory in Tagbilaran, Bohol was recommended for its bean-to-bar creations such as boxes of pralines and dark chocolate-coated dried mango.
The Philippines recently launched the new campaign, “Eats More Fun In The Philippines“, to encourage travelers to try Filipino dishes.
SEND kudos in the comments below to the Bohol restaurants and food spots for gaining Nat Geo Travel’s thumbs up!
