Multi-awarded writer Ricky Lee is offering his popular scriptwriting workshop online for free to help film workers under community quarantine in the Philippines.
“Magkakalayo man tayo ngayon, ilalapit tayo ng kwento. Magbasa. Magsulat. Magkwento (Though we apart now, stories will bring us together. Read. Write. Tell your story),” the art card of the Ricky Lee Writing Workshop said.
Cinema Centenario Facebook announced on March 22, 2020, that Lee will be holding the free online workshop on April 8, 15, and 22.
Cinema Centenario said that the Ricky Lee Writing Workshop, with the Director’s Guild of the Philippines and the Lupon ng Pilipinong Sinematograpo in partnership with the Lockdown Cinema Club, is part of a campaign to raise funds for displaced film workers affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
To join, applicants must be at least 18 years old and a Filipino citizen. The workshop will be limited to 50 participants only.
The deadline for application to be accepted to the Ricky Lee Writing Workshop is on March 27, 2020, at 11:59 pm.
Ricky Lee, a fictionist, journalist, and playwright, has written 170 produced film scripts since 1979, earning him more than 70 trophies from award-giving bodies, including a lifetime achievement award from the critics’ group, Urian. Most of his films have been shown in Cannes, Toronto Film Festival, Berlin Film Festival, and other prestigious international festivals.
Lee is known as the writer of highly acclaimed films such as Himala, The Flor Contemplacion Story, Muru Ami, Rizal, Nasaan Ka Man, Madrasta, and Anak.
Ricky Lee found value in a college degree and finally received a diploma after over 5 decades of a stellar career. He was awarded a Doctorate in Humanities Honoris Causa by the Polytechnic University of the Philippines and achieved his dream of being a teacher as he conducted free writing workshops.
Among Ricky Lee’s scriptwriting workshop students are actress Bea Alonzo and entertainment guru, Noel Ferrer.
