Quantum physicist Dr. Mary Jacquiline Romero will be receiving the L’Oréal-UNESCO International Rising Talent grant for 2019 for women scientists.
Dr. Romero will be awarded during the 21st L’Oréal-UNESCO International Awards for Women in Science slated for March 14 at the UNESCO Headquarters in Paris, France. As part of her award, Dr. Romero will be celebrated as one of the 15 promising young women scientists participating in the L’Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science Programme: Dialogue with 2019 Laureates and International Rising Talents.
Dr. Romero is a 2019 Asia Pacific regional fellowship awardee for Australia, University of Queensland where she currently teaches. Romero was previously one of the five awardees of the 2017 L’Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science Australia & New Zealand Fellowships.
The Filipina scientist, a University of the Philippines alumna, is recognized for her work on quantum alphabets – “an expert on high-dimensional entanglement of the spatial modes of light with her present works including the utilization of the quantum state of light particles to encode information over long distances.”
UNESCO and the L’Oréal Corporate Foundation’s program has been around for the last 20 years. they have worked together in order to improve the scientific industry and discoveries by improving the representation of women in science. The foundation’s program is also executed to promote the right of all to savor the joy and benefits of science.
