Filipino Miss Universe Pia Wurtzbach has showcased the creations of the indigenous community weavers of Kiangan, Ifugao in a new fashion editorial featured in Vogue Italia.
Wurtzbach recently shared on Instagram that she hopes to pay homage to Filipino indigenous culture through the Kandama Collective fashion pieces woven by the local weavers of Lih’han Di Immipugo of Kiangan in Ifugao province.
“For me, this is Philippine indi-GENIUS! We focus and shine the light on our weavers from Lih’han Di Immipugo of Kiangan, Ifugao @lihhan_di_immipugo,” Pia Wurtzbach wrote on her official Instagram account.
The Miss Universe 2015 titleholder and Philippine arts and culture ambassador shared that the editorial themed “Indigenous Futurism” is an artistic collaboration of an all-Filipino creative team which includes acclaimed photographer MJ Suayan and fashion designer Victor Baguilat Jr.
“This is a look at our culture into the future: of what could have been, and what it could still be. There is much to see and learn — from our ever-evolving culture, from every Filipino’s heART and soul,” Wurtzbach continued.
According to the beauty queen, the photoshoot aims to inspire more Filipinos to support and learn more about the works of indigenous artists so they can continue Philippine traditions.
“Everything is intertwined and in fashion, it’s inspiring when different creatives come together — from weavers to designers to artists to photographers. New stories arise from each concept piece, each photo output,” Wurtzbach said.
“It is with pride that I can wear my country’s stories as pieces of art. I hope every Filipino does too!” the Filipina beauty queen adds.

Pia Wurtzbach also graced the cover of L’Officiel India’s 20th anniversary issue.
