The Philippines’ Malagos Chocolate has won four golds and 1 bronze award at the 2020 World Drinking Chocolate Competition organized by the prestigious International Chocolate Awards (ICA).
The chocolate maker and cacao grower in Southern Philippines won for its 100% Unsweetened Chocolate made from fermented cacao beans grown from the country’s Cacao capital, Davao.
Malagos was named among the winners during the virtual Schokoladen Gourmet Festival in Hannover, Germany last October 25, 2020.
Malagos Chocolate won the following ICA recognition:
- GOLD – Plain/Origin Dark Drinking Chocolate (made with water)
- GOLD – Growing Country
- GOLD – Chocolate Maker
- GOLD – Direct Traded
- BRONZE – Plain/Origin Dark Drinking Chocolate (made with milk)
The internationally-awarded Malagos chocolatiers shared on social media the special value of the 2020 ICA recognition.
“What makes our Gold victory even sweeter is this: the Unsweetened Chocolate is the base throughout our entire product line. It is our purest with only one ingredient, the fermented dried cacao bean. Makes us proud to be a cacao grower,” shared Malagos.
“With these new awards, Malagos Chocolate has gone full circle. Back in 2015, it was in this same category that we were able to claim our first international award, which placed the spotlight on Malagos and Philippine cacao.”
Malagos bagged 5 awards at the Academy of Chocolate Awards in the UK.
Malagos Chocolate of Puentespina farm has also been designated world-class heirloom cacao in 2019.
