The Philippines has bagged the title of the World’s Leading Dive Destination for the third time in a row as well as other major honors at the prestigious World Travel Awards (WTA).
The archipelagic nation continues its winning streak at the World Edition of the WTA after taking home three recognitions for its top dive spots and establishments.
For the third straight year, the country has been named the Leading Dive Destination by the global awards body, besting other beautiful locations around the world such as the Azores Islands, Bora Bora in French Polynesia, the Cayman Islands, and the Maldives, among others.
World-famous Amanpulo in Palawan was also declared the Leading Dive Resort for the third time since the Philippine luxury establishment won the award in 2019.
In her acceptance speech, Tourism Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat said the award was a great honor for all Filipinos, but also a great responsibility for the nation to conserve and protect its marine resources.
“On behalf of all Filipinos, I extend our thanks to the World Travel Awards for recognizing the Philippines as the World’s Leading Dive Destination for the third year in a row,” said Tourism Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat in her acceptance speech on December 16, 2021.
“This distinction is indeed a great privilege, yet, it underlines our great responsibility of protecting and conserving our underwater resources so that these may also be enjoyed and experienced in their pristine natural state by future generations. Once again, thank you for this wonderful honor. Mabuhay po kayong lahat,” Romulo-Puyat added.
Known for its rich marine biodiversity and tourist attractions, the country conquered five categories in last year’s WTA and collected 17 nominations in the 2021 edition.
The Philippines and its hospitality sector won the following awards at the WTA 2021:
- World’s Leading Dive Destination – Philippines
- World’s Leading Dive Resort 2021 – Amanpulo, Philippines
- World’s Leading Casino Resort 2021 – City of Dreams Manila, Philippines
The Philippines was previously named Asia’s Leading Dive Destination and Asia’s Leading Beach Destination in this year’s regional WTA.
