Northern Luzon’s Tarlac-Pangasinan-La Union Expressway (TPLEX) has finally opened its last section to complete the four-lane toll road to speed up travel time.
The TPLEX 11-kilometer final section that connects Central to Northern Luzon was officially opened on July 15, 2020, and is expected to reduce travel time from Tarlac to La Union to just 1 hour from 3.5 hours, and Metro Manila to Baguio travel from 6 hours to just 3.5 hours.
The completed expressway with ten interchanges and 11 toll plazas facilitates the faster transport of goods, increased tourism, and more livelihood.
“All of these will help jumpstart our economic recovery from this pandemic. TPLEX will help deliver growth to the regions for generations to come,” said San Miguel Corporation (SMC) Infrastructure, the builder and operator of the expressway.
“By not scaling back on investments in infrastructure, we will be able to create more jobs, keep the flow of goods and services moving, and pave the way for more local tourism for the long term,” Ramon S. Ang, president of SMC explained.
SMC initiated several projects to address the COVID-19 pandemic including donating high-capacity testing machines, producing disinfectant alcohol, and helping farmers sell fresh produce.
