Miss Universe Philippines has revealed the crown for its winner in its first-ever competition being held this October.
The Filipino pageant organization took to social media on October 20, 2020, to reveal the look of the anticipated crown named “Filipina.”
The headpiece made by Filipino-owned pawnshop chain Villarica bears the colors of the Philippine flag through its blue, red, and yellow stones.
The design of the silver crown embellished with diamonds and pearls is patterned after a cluster of leaves.
Miss Universe Philippines said on its post:
“The crown represents the achievement of one’s mind over body as a Filipina. It will be a symbol of triumph over one’s journey of trials, hard work and perseverance in obtaining one’s dream. A dream that has become a reality that would inhabit her mind, heart and spirit.
“The elements of the FILIPINA crown reflect the true meaning of womanhood.
“The swirl of leaves are like the lives of every woman who seeks success in different forms yet still keeps the Filipino values in their hearts.
“Every diamond embedded in each leaf lusters like smiles that sparkle the lives of people that she encounters.
“The yellow pearls express creativity, intelligence, optimism and fear of God – characteristics that make every Filipina a gem in her family.
“Sapphire, Ruby and Topaz represent the flag of every proud Filipina, a woman who believes in the beauty of her race, the strength that runs in the veins of her blood and the beat of her heart that would always describe a true FILIPINA.”
The organization also expressed its gratitude to the Villarica Pawnshop for its “major contribution to the cause of Women Empowerment” for “stepping up to the challenge for creating this masterpiece.”
On October 25, Miss Universe Philippines 2019 Gazini Ganados will crown her successor who would represent the country in the international beauty pageant in 2021.
To date, the country has won the Miss Universe title four times. The first in 1969 by Gloria Diaz followed by Margarita Moran in 1973.
The Philippines started to dominate the international pageant arena in 2010 and bagged two more crowns in its decade-long campaign. One in 2015 by actress-turned beauty queen Pia Wurtzbach and duplicated by model-humanitarian aid worker Catriona Gray in 2018.
