Anonymous MICHELIN Inspectors are already exploring the country’s vibrant dining scene, marking a major milestone for Filipino cuisine on the global stage.

MICHELIN Guide Explores Manila and Cebu

The MICHELIN Guide has announced its expansion into the Philippines, selecting Metro Manila and Cebu as focal points for its upcoming restaurant selection. Inspectors will also explore the surrounding areas of Manila, including Pampanga, Tagaytay, and Cavite, to discover the best culinary gems.

International Director of the MICHELIN Guide, Gwendal Poullennec, expressed excitement over the country’s diverse and evolving dining culture. “Our MICHELIN Inspectors have been following the evolution of the Filipino culinary scene with great excitement. The country’s deep-rooted culinary traditions, combined with a strong openness to global influences, create a uniquely diverse dining culture,” he stated.

A Boost for Filipino Gastronomy and Tourism

The Philippine Department of Tourism (DOT) has welcomed the arrival of the MICHELIN Guide, seeing it as a testament to the nation’s culinary excellence.

Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco shared, “The arrival of the MICHELIN Guide is not only a testament to our country’s culinary excellence but also a significant leap forward for Filipino tourism, with gastronomy now forming a key part of our national tourism priorities.”

MICHELIN Guide Selection Process

The MICHELIN Guide uses five universal criteria to evaluate restaurants, ensuring a consistent and rigorous selection process. These include the quality of ingredients, mastery of cooking techniques, harmony of flavors, personality of the cuisine, and consistency over time and throughout the menu.

The MICHELIN distinctions include the coveted MICHELIN Stars, awarded for outstanding culinary excellence, and the Bib Gourmand category, which highlights restaurants offering high-quality food at reasonable prices.
