John Jeffrey “Janjep’ Carlos from General Trias, Cavite was crowned Mr. Gay World 2019 on May 4 in Cape Town, South Africa – the second Filipino to win the title.
Janjep Carlos’ win is a repeat victory for the Philippines as John Raspado won the same title in 2017.
Carlos said in a media interview that his competition inspiration was Filipina Miss Universe Catriona Gray whose showcase of Filipino arts and culture made her standout among the rest of the candidates.
Carlos expressed to PepPh that he felt much pressure as the Philippines is considered a pageant powerhouse for winning several crowns in the past years.
The 41-year old entrepreneur bested more than 20 other candidates from all over the world. The Philippine pageant representative also won the National Costume Award.
