Filipino singer Marcelito Pomoy and his daughter, Marcella Janiah, sang duets in a Facebook Live Concert to raise funds for relief goods while thanking frontliners fighting the COVID-19 pandemic around the world.
Marcelito went on Facebook Live with his 4-year-old daughter MJ last April 7, 2020, to sing duets including Michael Jackson’s “Heal The World” originally recorded by the American pop superstar who was also nicknamed MJ like Pomoy’s child. Pomoy earlier posted a YouTube cover of the same song dedicated to COVID-19 victims.
The father and daughter tandem also performed “Hallelujah”, a song written by Canadian singer Leonard Cohen which was made more popular by John Cale who sang it in the hit animation film, Shrek.
The free Facebook Live Concert served as a GAVA GIVES fundraiser to give food assistance for families affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. The rations also included milk for the babies of families under lockdown. The fund drive has already reached $2,163 out of the target amount of $5,000.
The Filipino singer, who is known for effortlessly switching between soprano and tenor voices, also sang requests from viewers including the operatic pop song “I Believe In You” by Celine Dion and Il Divo.
Pomoy also sang a cover of “Pusong Ligaw”, a Filipino song by Filipino singer and actor Jericho Rosales.
Pomoy started the Facebook Live concert raffling off ten thousand pesos to several winners.
The “man with the golden voices” thanked all frontliners around the world and had messages for everyone to stay safe and stay at home during the community quarantine to stop the spread of COVID-19.
Kaya stay at home nalang tayo,” Pomoy shared.
He also shared his experiences of not having a family to lean on during difficult times and how he survived growing up while looking for his family.
Netizens remarked how they can see the closeness, love, and the bond between the father and daughter. They also predicted his daughter becoming an excellent and talented singer just like her dad.
“I am so glad to see you and MJ. It was such a stress reliever. MJ is such a cutie! I can see your closeness as father-child tandem. Stay as you are. You are very well loved and respected for being a responsible and loving family man. I hope this COVID-19 will end soon, so you can again showcase your talent to the whole world. ❤🙏,” said Dorrie Pitaccio in the comments on the FB live stream.
“Our hope, our peace and our joy comes from our Lord not from people. It can be hard but when attacks come into our lives, remember to focus your eyes and heart on Him. For every negative word there are thousands of others who love you, appreciate your sacrifice, and are blessed by your talent and are themselves challenged to be better people by the Godly example set by you and your family. Always remember to “Turn your eyes upon Jesus. Look full in His wonderful face. And the things of earth will grow strangely dim, in the light of His glory and grace. Ang pagmamahal namin sa iyo at sa iyong pamilya. Pagpalain ka. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️,” Jody Spaulding commented.
Marcelito Pomoy, the Pilipinas Got Talent Champion who stunned the world with his multiple singing voices, was named the third runner up winner by the America’s Got Talent: Champions Superfans.
Following the concert, Marcelito Pomoy and his wife Joane starting distributing relief goods to families affected by the lockdown.
