Filipino international boxing legend Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao successfully defended his WBA Welterweight crown during the 61st ring fight of his career.
The 40-year-old Pacquiao was in great fighting form as he outpunched, outlanded, and clearly outclassed his challenger, the 29-year-old American Adrien Broner, securing a unanimous decision – 117-111, 116-112, 116-112 – in the 12-round fight at the MGM Grand in Nevada.
The multi-division championship record holder fought his first title defense after winning the crown against Argentinian champion Lucas Matthysse in one of 2018’s best triumphant stories. Pacquiao is definitely back at the top of the boxing universe after the convincing win.
Pacman retained his WBA Welterweight title after dominating his opponent through aggression
and quickness. The fighting senator from the Philippines said in a post-fight interview that he was able to execute the planned strategies and techniques against the younger boxer.
Manny Pacquiao, the Filipino “People’s Champ,” also said his win confirms that his passion for boxing remains unchanged and even issued a challenge to American boxer Floyd Mayweather saying, “Tell him to come back to the ring and we will fight.”
