Multiplatinum American recording artist Josh Groban came to Manila for a one-night only concert on February 22 and left with praises for the iconic Filipino warm welcome, Asia’s Romantic Balladeer Christian Bautista, and the Philippines’ own Broadway royalty Lea Salonga who sang two duets despite nursing an injury.
It has been 12 years since Groban last performed in Manila and his return for the Bridges Tour was unique as it marked the first time Groban and Salonga – two acclaimed international performers are on stage together – and even more special for Salonga who was celebrating her birthday on the concert date.
Groban also sang “We Will Meet Once Again” from his album Bridges in a duet with Filipino singer Christian Bautista, touted as Asia’s Romantic Balladeer.
Groban went on social media to thank Filipinos saying, “Manila, thanks for the amazing welcome back. After 12 years to see so many thousands of you showing us the love, it meant so much.”
The Tony Award-winning Lea Salonga, who recently received her first Grammy nomination, went on stage despite nursing a leg injury which had her singing from a wheelchair, still hitting the high notes and matching Groban’s singing of the songs “The Prayer” and “All I Ask of You” from the hit Broadway musical Phantom of the Opera.
Groban adds he will return for another performance soon, “It won’t be another 12 I promise. Thanks to @ovationprod, @msleasalonga, @xtianbautista and all the incredible local talent and crew who made the night one to remember.”
