A farmer’s son from Santo Tomas, Isabela has received 13 admission offers and scholarships from prestigious local and international universities.
Graduating senior high school student Benjamin Baui of the Advance Montessori Education Center of Isabela has been accepted to several top colleges in the Philippines and abroad.
The young Filipino achiever has also been offered various scholarships and awards by higher education institutions in the United States, including the University of Arizona and Xavier University, as well as the Jacobs University Bremen in Germany, among others.
Baui’s multiple acceptance offers from local and international colleges drew the praise and admiration of netizens on social media.
“As of now, these are the international universities I’ve passed. I am delighted to inform you all that I have been accepted as a first-year student to a number of prestigious international schools in the United States for the Fall of 2022,” Benjamin Baui wrote in a Facebook post last April.
“As a result, I’ve gotten scholarships and awards worth a total of 11 million pesos in the Philippines,” Baui added.
The 17-year-old scholar plans to major in Architectural Studies and already has his sights set on Xavier University, a private Jesuit university in Ohio, U.S.A.
Because of Baui’s academic achievements, the private university in Ohio offered him the Presidential Scholarship valued at $100,000 (approximately over PhP 5 million).
Baui recently told GMA News that he was grateful to have been offered the opportunity to attend college abroad.
In the interview, Baui’s mother expressed that they would need financial assistance to help cover the costs of sending him to school in the United States.
Benjamin Baui said he hopes to inspire young Filipino students to study hard and pursue their dreams.
“Ang pinaka importante po sa lahat ay maging disiplinado po sa pag-aaral and maging responsable po. And don’t let your anxiety deter you from achieving your dreams,” Benjamin Baui told GMA News.
Filipino scholars who overcame adversity and attended top universities in the Philippines and abroad include Capiz farmer’s son Aldrean Paul Alogon who won the Freeman Asian Scholarship and is now studying at the Wesleyan University in the United States, famed photographer and former domestic worker Xyza Cruz Bacani who graduated from New York University, and Joshua Mahilum, the son of a sidewalk vendor and tricycle driver in Bacolod City, who recently graduated from the University of St. La Salle with a degree in chemical engineering.
