Filipino boy band Sound Break 19 (SB19) dedicated their new song “Ikako” to frontliners of the battle against the coronavirus disease.
The group that grabbed the 5th spot on the Billboard Social 50, beating Kpop groups EXO, ATEEZ, NCT Dream and Tomorrow X Together (TXT), and Indonesian writer Fiersa Besari in the Top 10, released their newest single in April on YouTube.
The first boy band to train under the Korean Pop system was on the GMA Television show “Unang Hirit” last May 4, 2020, to perform their new song and to give their message to frontliners.
Sejun a.k.a. John Paulo Nase composed the song and used a title that combines the words “Ikaw at Ako (You and I)”.
“Sa lahat ng frontliners, thank you so much for your braveness. Thank you dahil niri-risk niyo iyong life para sa ibang tao. I pray na God will protect all of you,” SB19’s Ken shared.
He added that he wanted to take this opportunity to thank his uncle who is also a frontliner in Bulacan.
Netizens also started sharing how they appreciated the new song.
“This one stands out because of its upbeat vibe. Even the clips used here show frontliners having a good time. It reflects Filipinos’ optimism, hopeful spirit and happy disposition even in times of crisis. This also shows that SB19 is a real gamechanger,” Vince Robb said in the comments.
Redmond Flores also shared his thoughts by saying, “Jesus Christ’s resurrection is a reminder that the Lord will never leave us behind. Today, we have heard Pinunong Sejun’s own composition and arrangement of the song Ikako, a song of hope as we are combatting against COVID-19 pandemic.”
“It would be one of the best theme song for this time. Not just for all the frontliners or health workers but also for everyone. Together me and you, we will surpass or we will overcome this crisis because we can. As of now, this song means a lot for everyone. I just hope by this song of sejun, everyone will inspire and motivate despite of what we are facing right now,” Litz Flores20 commented.
More tribute songs to frontliners have been performed by various musicians and groups. Among them, OPM artists who came together to sing “We Heal As One”, a remake of the 30th SEA Games anthem, the Clash Grand Champion Jeremiah Tiangco who paid tribute to Filipino COVID-19 frontliners with an original composition titled, “Saludo”, while concert King Martin Nievera led OPM artists in the singing of the DepEd tribute song, “Dakila Ka, Bayani Ka”
