Four Filipina teens displaying their power lifts have so far harvested 12 gold medals within the first three days of the ongoing Asian Youth and Junior Weightlifting Championships in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
The Philippine anthem was heard and the national flag was seen several times on the podium as Angeline Colonia, Rose Jean Ramos, Rosegie Ramos, and Rosalinda Faustino delivered gold-winning lifts one after another in their respective divisions in the tournament.
The outstanding performances of the teen athletes are raising hopes of the nation for successors to the first Filipino Olympic gold medalist, weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz.
Angeline Colonia, 2 gold (Youth Women 40kg division)
The 15-year-old lifter from Pasobolong in Zamboanga picked up the Snatch event and overall gold medals on the opening day of the weightlifting tournament while breaking the Youth World Record and Youth Asian Record.
Angeline Colonia delivered 62 kilograms in the Women’s 40 kg Snatch event, eclipsing the previous Asian Standards of 61 kgs. Colonia also picked up a silver medal in Clean and Jerk with 72 kilograms.
Rose Jean Ramos, 4 gold (Youth and Junior Women 45kg divisions)
The 17-year-old athlete from Zamboanga City added four more gold medals, one silver, and one bronze for the Philippines on Day 2 of the weightlifting championships.
Rose Jean Ramos topped the women’s 45kg category in Snatch (70kgs.), Clean & Jerk (83kgs.), and overall (153kgs.) to win the Youth division’s championship title.
Ramos added a fourth gold medal from Snatch (70kgs.) in the Junior division. The bronze medal came from the Clean and Jerk (83kgs.), and the silver medal from the overall lift of 153kgs.
Rosalinda Faustino, 3 gold (Youth Women 49kg. division)
Rosalinda Faustino swept all three events in the Youth Women 49kg division on Day 3 of the Asian Youth & Junior Weightlifting Championships.
The 15-year-old topped with 71 kgs. in Snatch, 90 kgs. in Clean & Jerk, and an overall lift of 161 kgs.
Rosegie Ramos, 3 gold (Junior Women 49kg division)
Nineteen-year-old Rosegie Ramos placed first in both Snatch (80kgs) and Clean and Jerk (96kgs) to earn a total of 176kgs., sealing her win of 3 gold medals in the Junior Women 49kg division.
