An elderly couple living in a jeepney for 2 years were given a new home and livelihood by Angel Locsin’s “Iba ‘Yan!” program.
Locsin, a Filipino actress known for her humanitarian work, presented the surprise to the jeepney driver and his wife on the show’s July 5, 2020, episode.
Jimmy and his wife Emilia made the jeepney their home after leaving their unfinished house in Morong, Rizal, to earn a living in Manila.
Jimmy is one of Manila’s jeepney drivers who were hit hard by the lockdown that halted public transportation to stop the spread of coronavirus disease (COVID-19). Jeepney drivers like Mang Jimmy were left with no other recourse but to just pray and wait for available assistance.
This is where Angel Locsin’s “Iba ‘Yan!” program came into the picture to help the couple and bring them back to their home in Morong.
“Nangarap ako na mapagawa ang [bahay], mapinturahan namin,” Mang Jimmy shared referring to the unfinished house they left in Rizal. “Makabili kami ng gamit. Eh wala nga. Nag-lockdown.”
The couple did not know that the “Iba ‘Yan” team had already given their house a makeover. They provided beddings, curtains, a dining set, and a sofa set. They also constructed a small sari-sari store attached to the house so that Mang Jimmy and Aling Emilia no longer need to go to the city to earn their living.
The show also provided them a business package for their additional income.
Angel Locsin, the Pinay actress tagged as “real-life Darna”, joined the team in bringing Mang Jimmy and Aling Emilia back to their home.
The elderly couple was surprised and burst in tears after seeing all the blessings they received from Angel Locsin’s team.
As of this writing, the episode has already amassed 3.4 million views on YouTube and has also gone viral on other social media networks.
Aside from her show “Iba ‘Yan!”, Angel Locsin is also working on Shop&Share Ph 2020 to raise funds for COVID-19 mass testing.
During the community quarantine, Locsin also raised Php 11 million for the #UniTENTweStandPH campaign to provide tents to overcrowded hospitals and frontliners.
