The Philippine Robotics National Team of Dr. Yanga’s Colleges Inc. (DYCI) in Bulacan has created LEGO automated robot alcohol dispensers to help people with proper handwashing techniques while in the frontlines of the fight against COVID-19.
The LEGO automated robot alcohol dispensers are now being used in the public markets, churches, and hospitals of Bocaue and Malolos in Bulacan.
The LEGO robotic dispensers automatically pour the correct amount of rubbing alcohol. “The dispensers are made with LEGO Education EV3 and sensors to give the exact amount of alcohol for the public, providing protection for the people without wastage,” announced the Department of Education of the project on April 6, 2020.
The award-winning Philippine National Robotics Team took inspiration from the invention from a University in Taiwan. With that inspiration, the team of DYCI Robotics Head Coach Beryl Cruz decided to make a simple version of the machine to help the frontliners.
The DYCI team received the support of DYCI President Michael Yanga in cooperation with Mylene Abiva of FELTA Multi-Media Inc., organizer of delegations to international robotics competitions where DYCI have excelled.
In 2019, the Philippine Robotics National Team represented by Dr. Yanga Colleges Inc. took the Gold at the World Robot Olympiad in Hungary – outclassing 74 countries with over 2700 participants in the most prestigious and largest Robotics and Advance Robotics event in the world.
Team DYCI NOVUS, a member of the Philippine Robotics National Team also won Gold at the World Robot Olympiad Friendship Invitational 2019 held in Aarhus, Denmark in the Senior – Open (Creative) Category with the project SMART Governance or ALAB (Anti-Adversity Link for Aid and Benefit).
