De La Salle University-Dasmariñas (DLSU-D) has elevated its educational experience by adopting CYPHER Learning®, a premier Learning Management System (LMS) that brings gamification to the forefront of learning.
Founded in 1911, DLSU-D has built a reputation as a top-tier institution in the Philippines, recognized for its research excellence and environmental initiatives. It is a designated Center of Development for Excellence in Information Technology and an Academic Center for Excellence in Biodiversity Conservation.
“CYPHER Learning® kept our school alive during the pandemic. The transition from traditional to fully online delivery was made easy by the platform,” said Roland Ruben, Virtual Learning Environment Coordinator.
The Challenge
DLSU-D faced several challenges:
- Finding an enjoyable, user-friendly, and cost-effective LMS for teachers and students.
- Encouraging voluntary LMS adoption among teachers.
- Overcoming resistance to digital integration among educators accustomed to traditional methods.
The Solution
DLSU-D implemented CYPHER Learning® in 2010, starting with 7,000 students. By 2019, the adoption rate had reached 100%, encompassing almost 15,000 students and continuing education learners.
The Center for Innovative Learning Programs at DLSU-D played a key role in this transition, creating a community focused on efficient teaching and learning through technology.
Implementation
DLSU-D’s Higher Education and Senior High School programs, as well as continuing education, benefit from CYPHER’s ability to organize various study levels into a single network. This approach provides administrators with an overview of all activities while customizing the experience for each department.
As of February 2019, the Higher Education program at DLSU-D offers 2,808 active courses, with 48% being blended learning, 27% self-paced, 23% instructor-led, and 1% microlearning.

User Experience: “Students love the freedom of studying at any time and they find CYPHER fun and engaging,” said Ernesto Ramos Jr., Learning Object Coordinator.
Ease of Use: “CYPHER is the best platform for me because it’s an all-in-one package. It’s also easy to use for both teachers and students,” noted Maurice Olivier Baylan, Teacher.
Gamification: “CYPHER is easy to use and has a very engaging user interface. We can gamify our online classes with the use of points, badges, and the leaderboard. CYPHER has kept our students engaged and motivated,” explained Ruben.
Teachers reward students with points and badges for completing actions like taking quizzes or finishing lessons, motivating them to engage more with the platform.
Tracking: “Parents just love the fact that they can monitor their children’s lessons, assessments, and overall performance,” added Ruben.
Convenience: “Aside from the fact that we are pioneering CYPHER usage, it is more convenient to use than any other LMS that I have experienced,” said Ace Monitor, Teacher.
Grading and Course Creation: “The project enables instructors to be more efficient by saving time on tasks such as grading papers, creating classes, and giving personalized feedback to students,” stated Baylan.

“We encourage our teachers by sharing best practices. We have e-learning forums, a radio show to inform them about what’s new in e-learning, and we always assure them that they have our support,” reiterated Roland Ruben.
