Teenage Filipino gymnast Carlos Edriel Yulo bested competitors to win a gold medal for the Philippines at the 2019 World Cup Gymnastics Finals held in Melbourne, Australia.
Yulo won his first gold as a senior gymnast in the competition’s Men’s Floor Exercise on the first day of the finals, February 23.
In 2018, the Filipino gymnast won a bronze medal at the Melbourne leg of the FIG Artistic Individual Apparatus World Cup series in Australia. He again picked up a bronze in the Men’s Floor Exercises Final at the World Gymnastics Championships in Doha, Qatar,
The 19-year-old gymnast went into the 2019 World Cup Gymnastics Finals after emerging in the 3rd spot in the qualifying round.
“Carlos Edriel Yulo from the Philippines claimed the Gold medal as a clear winner with a score of 14.566,” reported the World Cup Gymnastics site.
The Pinoy teen gymnast went on the medalists’ podium together with silver medalist Hibiki Arayashiki of Japan, and Rayderley Zapata from Spain and Great Britain’s Dominick Cunningham who tied for bronze.
Carlos Edriel Yulo is racking up points from different World Cups to pursue the Philippines’ dream of earning a spot at the upcoming 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
