The Philippine islands of Boracay, Palawan, and Cebu are among the 25 Best Islands in the World topping the Travel + Leisure (T+L) World’s Best Awards survey for 2022.
The popular travel destinations in the archipelagic nation of over 7,640 islands are once again named in the annual best-of-list released in July by the New York-based travel magazine.
“The best islands in the world, according to Travel + Leisure readers, invite visitors to adopt a slower pace of life,” wrote Rebecca Ascher-Walsh in the T+L feature published on July 12. “Readers rated islands according to their activities and sights, natural attractions and beaches, food, friendliness, and overall value,” T+L adds.
BORACAY
The small island of Boracay in the Visayas group of islands, best known for its white powdery beaches and picture-perfect sunset, led the Philippines’ entries at No. 9 with a score of 90.89 points.
Boracay was also ranked No. 4 in the T+L Best Islands of Asia.
Boracay had undergone massive rehabilitation and redirection towards more ecology-friendly tourism activities.
PALAWAN
The country’s largest archipelagic province of Palawan is a three-time number 1 island choice for T+L readers, home to Seven Wonders of the World’s Puerto Princesa Subterranean River, and the El Nido lagoons and limestone cliffs.
Palawan is ranked No. 11 with a score of 90.81. The archipelagic province is ranked No. 5 in Asia’s Best Islands.
The islands of Palawan were ranked No. 19 in the 2021 edition of the T+L Best Islands list.
CEBU
The island province of Cebu offers of beaches, whale shark sightings, dive spots, and recreational activities.
Cebu returns to the best-of-list at No. 16 with a score of 90.12.
Boracay, Palawan, and Cebu were together previously voted best islands in the 2016 edition of the global travel awards.
