A video of blind singer Carmalone Montecido of Bacolod singing Sam Smith’s “Too Good at Goodbyes” has gone viral and has reached the Grammy winner who praised the Pinoy talent.
In the video, Montecido is seen wearing his school uniform while performing Sam Smith’s famous heartbreak hit song “Too Good at Goodbyes” wholeheartedly while inside the mall.
The original video was posted in the Facebook account of Trixie Madison on February 5 which tagged Steven Clarcson (Montecido’s Facebook account name). The video attracted social media users and to date the post has already garnered more than 436K reactions, 315K shares, and 9.5 million views.
The video has created buzz online, picked up by various media, and finally reached the world famous singer though social media tagging.
In his Twitter account on February 8, the Grammy-winning singer posted the video and asked a question in all caps: “WHO IS THIS KID!!!!!?”
The world renowned singer-songwriter also commended the Negrense singer for his great performance.
“YOU ARE OUT OF THIS UNIVERSE WHOEVER YOU ARE (heart emoji),” Smith added.
As of this writing, Smith’s video tweet has already amassed over 6.5 million views, 200 thousand retweets, and nearly 700 thousand likes.
Carmalone Montecido was a grand finalist of the first season of Tawag ng Tanghalan in 2017, a singing competition in the noontime TV program It’s Showtime where he was also given the moniker of “Blind Balladeer of Bacolod”. He uploads YouTube videosYouTube videos of his song covers.
Carmalone Montecido is reportedly set to join the Team Philippines delegation competing at the World Championship of Performing Arts (WCOPA) in California in July 2020.
