Beauty contest Binibining Pilipinas is finally resuming its pageant activities after the postponement of the 2020 edition due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Binibining Pilipinas Charities, Inc. (BPCI) excited Filipino pageant fans with its on-ground and online launching of the Binibining Pilipinas National Costume Photo Exhibit this January 2021.
It could be recalled that BPCI initially released the photo of aspiring beauty queen Samantha Panlilio of Cavite in October 2020 as an announcement that the organizers are looking for a possibility to hold the pageant in December or in early 2021.
“Let’s officially open the Binibining Pilipinas season with this year’s national costume exhibit!” the country’s longest-running pageant’s organizers announced on its Facebook page on January 20.
BPCI, then, invited their followers to visit the photo exhibit located at the Gateway Mall in Quezon City and at the Ali Mall from February 1 to 14.
“Visit the photo exhibit at the Gateway Mall on January 22 to 31 and Ali Mall, Araneta City on February 1-14 featuring the candidates in their magnificent outfits created with modern touches by Filipino designers.
“This is an opportunity for all the fans and supporters to have a better and closer look of the marvelous costumes as we pay tribute to the country’s heritage and cultural diversity.”
The 57-year-old Pinoy pageant organization also had a Live Commentary session on its Facebook hosted by Binibining Pilipinas-International 2019 Patch Magtanong together with Binibining Pilipinas-Intercontinental 2019 Emma Tiglao during the exhibit’s opening day on January 22.
BPCI Chairman Stella Marquez-Araneta’s welcome message to their supporters was also shared during the FB Live Commentary.
“Good day to all our supporters and followers!” the BPCI matriarch said.
“I am happy to announce that the Binibining Pilipinas Charities Inc is all set to continue with the pageant this year. We officially open the Binibining Pilipinas season with the launch of the national costume photo exhibit in Araneta City. Through this, we aim to celebrate our colorful culture and our talented local designers,” the first-ever Miss International winner shared.
“Our tradition of identifying and crowning our new queens will be done in a ‘new normal’ and safe setting. We share your excitement as we see the candidates in action again, and we look forward to your continuous support.”
Marquez-Araneta announced the culmination date of the pageant activities this coming April.
“See you all on April 17, 2021, for the Binibining Pilipinas Grand Coronation Night. Thank you,” Araneta concluded.
Through the years, the Binibining Pilipinas successfully produced world-class Filipina beauty queens including the four winners of Miss Universe competitions: Gloria Diaz (1969), Margie Moran (1973), Pia Wurtzbach (2015), and Catriona Gray (2018).
Binibining Pilipinas has also been successful in its campaign in the Japan-based Miss International, winning the title five times: Aurora Pijuan (1970), Melanie Marquez (1979), Lara Quigaman (2005), Bea Rose Santiago (2013), and Kylie Verzosa (2016).
