The team of future investment management professionals from the Jesuit-run Ateneo de Manila University in Quezon City, the Philippines’ Top 2 school on the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings (WUR), outperformed fellow finalists after winning the regionals and eventually bagging the plum title.
The team presented and defended their analysis of D&L Industries (DNL:PM) to a panel of judges drawn from the investment industry.
The 5-member winning Ateneo team:
- Katreena Dachelle Chang
- Carina Monica Chua
- Gabrielle Marie Tayag
- Vince Benedict Say
- Christine Abigail Yu
Faculty adviser, Miguel Sevidal, industry mentor Mark Canizares, Manulife Asset Management, and April Tan, COL Financial, and the CFA Society of the Philippines lent support to the Philippine team.
The 13th annual competition’s Regional and Global Finals held on April 23- 25 at the New York Marriott Marquis tested the students’ ability to conduct in-depth analysis of a listed company, with hands-on mentoring and intensive training in financial analysis and professional ethics through the CFA Institute network.
CFA Institute says the students are tested on their analytical, valuation, research, reporting, and presentation skills, and gain real-world experience as they assume the role of research analysts.
