Asia’s Got Talent judge David Foster hit the Golden Buzzer for 10-year-old Filipino singer Eleana Kaye Marie Pua Gabunada, sending another Pinoy through to the semifinals show of the talent competition.
Gabunada’s audition performance of Barbra Streisand’s 1964 Broadway classic, “Don’t Rain On My Parade” had judge Anggun refer to the young singer as “You’re like a baby Streisand!” while judge Jay Park noted how the Filipino singer received the rare standing ovation from head judge Foster. Foster told Gabunada, who says she wants to be a Broadway performer, “There is no doubt in my mind that if you want to be on Broadway one day, you will be.”
Gabunada who formerly competed in The Voice Kids with Broadway royalty Lea Salonga as her mentor, joins Shadow Ace Philip Galit who was given a Golden Buzzer by AGT hosts Alan and Justin – sending the 2 Pinoy acts straight to the show’s live semifinals episode. The new AGT season premiered in February with 3 Pinoy acts receiving 3 yesses and standing ovations – Junior Good Vibes dance crew, singing duo HK Sisters, and young cheerdancer Zeexhie will be moving on to the next round of the competition.
In the premiere season of Asia’s Got Talent in 2015, three Filipino acts were also sent through to the semifinal round and eventually dominated the competition with shadow artist group El Gamma Penumbra winning the AGT title, singer Gerphil Flores as 3rd placer, with the Junior New System dance crew and Gywneth Dorado also in the finals show.
