The Journey’s Arnel Pineda is paying tribute to the frontliners of the fight against the coronavirus disease pandemic with his new song composition, “Your Soldiers”.
The Filipino international rockstar released the song under DNA Music in various music platforms including Spotify, iTunes, and on ABS-CBN Star Music’s YouTube channel as a lyric video.
The lyric video presents various frontliners including medical and security workers.
The chorus of the song, “We will defend, we will deliver. Forward we fend off the death bringer,” is written in the perspective of the frontliners who continue to risk their lives daily so that they may mitigate and manage the threat COVID-19 brings.
The song also talks about standing together as a community that will fight until the end and asks for a prayer wishing strength for the frontliners.
This powerful message was passionately delivered with a constant bass and drum riff, seeming to sound like a march forward. As the song approaches the chorus, the melody climaxes with the electric guitar and Arnel’s raspy, dynamic voice.
“Grabe nakakabelib ang mga to’, walang takot,” Arnel Pineda shared in an interview by Rico Hizon on CNN Philippines’ The Final Word about the reasons for creating the song.
He referred to how he was inspired by the “soldier-like” fearlessness of the frontliners and workers who continue to do their jobs amidst the pandemic. “Sa lahat ng mga kababayan nating frontliners, I salute you. You are our heroes.”
Aside from the song being a tribute, Pineda also mentioned that it calls for unity in moving forward and working together despite the pandemic.
The singer shared that this song was just initially a poem that he posted, but when ABS-CBN Music’s creative director Jonathan Manalo noticed it, Arnel reached out and asked him if he would like to hear the tone he created for it. With this collaboration, the song “Your Soldiers” was made, with the production by Manalo and arrangement by Gabriel Tagadtad.
Its lyric video uploaded on YouTube in late May 2020 has received positive feedback from fans.

It’s no surprise that the song was sung so powerfully with strong emotions since Arnel Pineda has been the lead singer of iconic American rock band Journey since 2007. Arnel was discovered by the group’s guitarist Neal Schon on a YouTube video and was immediately contacted. The band had been looking for a new singer and Pineda’s voice has a striking similarity to the former lead singer Steve Perry.
Pineda is also known for staying grounded and close to his roots, constantly showing his Filipino pride and showing humanitarian efforts during crises- some of which includes staging a medical benefit concert for the Philippines, an EBC 52nd Anniversary digital concert to raise funds for COVID-19 relief, and his band Journey performing for UNICEF’s “Won’t Stop” COVID-19 benefit show.
