Globe Prepares Network for Potential Impact of Typhoon ‘Gener’

Globe is ready to keep communication lines running during typhoons and disasters.

Globe has begun preparations for the potential impact of Tropical Depression Gener, which is expected to enhance the Southwest Monsoon, bringing moderate to intense rains across Luzon this week.

Gener intensified from a low-pressure area to a Tropical Depression early Monday morning, September 16, 2024, prompting state weather bureau PAGASA to raise storm warning signal No. 1 in 11 provinces: Cagayan, Isabela, Quirino, Nueva Vizcaya, Nueva Ecija, Apayao, Kalinga, Mt. Province, Ifugao, Aurora, and Quezon.

PAGASA forecasts that Gener would make landfall in Aurora or Isabela on Tuesday, and then intensify into a tropical storm the following day when it is expected to exit the Philippine area of responsibility. The weather bureau warned that the storm could trigger floods and landslides.

Globe has prepositioned technical and support personnel along with critical supplies in areas on the path of the storm in anticipation of its potential effects. Its network facilities are equipped with generators and alternative power sources for backup power in case of commercial power outages.

Globe is also ready to deploy Libreng Tawag, Libreng Charging, and Libreng WiFi Services in severely hit areas where the storm may cause power and service outages.

We are fully prepared, with our network and teams on high alert, to ensure that our customers remain connected and supported as we anticipate the potential impact of Tropical Depression Gener. Our commitment is to keep services running smoothly, especially in times of need,” said Yoly Crisanto, Globe’s Chief Sustainability and Corporate Communications Officer.

Globe urges communities on the path of the storm to store food, water, and medicine, prepare first aid kits, emergency light sources, and batteries, and charge their mobile devices and alternative light sources ahead of Gener’s landfall.

Globe also calls on the public to get their weather updates from legitimate and trusted news sources. To help customers access timely and verified weather updates, Globe provides free data access to the website of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC).
