The Philippines has once again been named Asia’s Leading Dive Destination and Asia’s Leading Beach Destination and won six other citations in this year’s prestigious World Travel Awards (WTA).
Known for its pristine white beaches and dive spots, the archipelagic nation repeated its double wins first achieved in 2020.
The Southeast Asian nation won Asia’s Leading Beach Destination award against India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, and Thailand – its first back-to-back win in the category.
This is the Philippines’ 5th time to be voted Asia’s Leading Beach Destination after winning in 2020, 2018, 2016, and 2013.
The country has also held the distinction of winning its 3rd successive Asia’s Leading Dive Destination international award, besting Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand in the current edition. The Filipino nation won the 2020 and 2019 editions.
The country bagged a total of 8 awards out of 11 nominations in the World Travel Awards Asia and Oceania 2021 edition announced on October 19, 2021, in London, the United Kingdom.
The Philippines’ tourism industry has also been shortlisted for a total of 17 nominations in the upcoming World Edition of the 28th annual WTA.
The Philippine Department of Tourism (DOT) accepted the following major awards in the 2021 World Travel Awards Asia and Oceania Winners edition:
- Philippines – Asia’s Leading Dive Destination
- Philippines – Asia’s Leading Beach Destination
The following Philippine establishments and top tourist destinations won the following 6 awards under their respective categories:
- Savoy Hotel Manila, Philippines – Asia’s Leading Airport Hotel
- Cebu Pacific – Asia’s Leading Most Efficient Airline
- Discovery Primea, Philippines – Asia’s Leading Business Hotel
- City of Dreams Manila, Philippines – Asia’s Leading Casino Resort
- City of Dream Manila, Philippines – Asia’s Leading Fully Integrated Resort
- Amanpulo, Philippines – Asia’s Leading Private Island Resort
“We are elated that the country’s pristine beaches and mesmerizing dive spots have once again been cited as the best in Asia by the prestigious 2021 World Travel Awards,” Philippine Department of Tourism Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat said in a statement.
“We share this recognition with our tourism stakeholders, local government units, partner agencies, and all Filipinos who have been helping us promote our country’s attractions, products, and culture.”
In her acceptance speech, the tourism chief pledged, “We will continue to protect and preserve our seas and marine wildlife so that more people can witness our rich and mesmerizing underwater resources.”
