Filipino fashion brand, Bayo, has joined the United Nations Global Compact initiative, the first mainstream retail business from the Philippines to join the program.
Bayo joins thousands of other companies globally committed to taking responsible business action to create a more sustainable and better world in the UN initiative for a voluntary leadership platform for the development, implementation, and disclosure of responsible business practices.
Making big, fashionable strides towards sustainability, the Journey to Zero movement of BAYO is centered on achieving a sustainable approach to fashion: from spreading awareness on the growing need for sartorial consciousness to designing zero-waste collections for the consumers. It means transitioning its linear approach to a circular business model and at the same time enacting zero waste in all its production processes, where most waste from textile scraps is generated.
The UN Global Compact is a call to companies everywhere to align their operations and strategies with ten universally accepted principles in the areas of human rights, labor, environment, and anti-corruption, and to take action in support of UN goals and issues embodied in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Launched in 2000, the UN Global Compact is the largest corporate sustainability initiative in the world, with more than 9,500 companies and 3,000 non-business signatories based in over 160 countries, and more than 70 Local Networks.
“Bayo has committed to ensure that its corporate practices shall be aligned to these principles reflected in the 17 Sustainable Development Goals” noted by Chief Creative Officer, Anna Lagon.
Filipino fashion businesses with sustainable practices include Rags2Riches which has partnered with Cambio online shop to bring eco-ethical Filipino fashion to North America and Palawan’s Flour Sack Clothes by AraPilak that promotes sustainable fashion.
SEND CHEERS in the comments below to Bayo for being the 1st Filipino fashion retail brand to join the UN Global Compact program.
