Filipino-American actor Jon Jon Briones is playing the lead role of a Filipino doctor in NETFLIX’s upcoming psychological-horror drama series, “Ratched” this September.
Briones, who previously appeared in Ryan Murphy’s multi-awarded series “The Assassination of Gianni Versace” starring Fil-Am Daryll Criss, is in the new Ryan Murphy TV show as Dr. Richard Hanover in the suspense series inspired by the 1962 novel “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest.”
The award-winning theater actor portrays the character of a brilliant doctor who claims he can cure anyone but his ambitious attempt to do so caused only trouble and forced him to run away and change his personality.
The Broadway performer said he was honored to be part of the American horror drama series and be lined-up with amazing actors.
“Every time I wake up, go to work and realize I’m one of the leads, it brings me back and remembering where I came from, poor family, in one of the slums of Quezon City and not knowing I’ll be in Hollywood… I’m very grateful,” Briones reminisced.
The much-awaited series will reveal the origin of one of the world’s most iconic character, Nurse Ratched played by Ocean’s 8 Sarah Paulson who was really impressed by the Fil-Am actor and said he is a “talented and gifted actor.”
Briones joins other impressive Hollywood actors in the series including Sarah Paulson, Judy Davis, Sharon Stone, Cynthia Nixon, Sophie Okonedo, Vince D’Onofrio, and even his son, Teo Briones.
The psychological series was filmed in February until July of 2019 and will be premiering on NETFLIX on September 18, 2020.
Another Filipino actor who is making a name on the Hollywood screen is Mon Confiado who also plays Filipino lead character in U.S. film “Turncoat”.
