The Island of Palawan has once again been named as 2020’s “Best Island in the World” by the prestigious Travel+Leisure magazine of New York.
Palawan island, now a four-time winner of the Best Island award in T+L, previously held the title in 2017, 2016, and 2013.
Palawan once again received the highest vote of 94.83, earning this year’s No. 1 rank in the Top 25 List of the renowned travel website.
The result of the World’s Best Awards released on July 8, 2020, reflected the experiences of the magazine’s readers before the pandemic broke out and closed the survey on March 2, 2020.
Sara Clemence, a Travel+Leisure writer, described Palawan as a must-see place due to its dramatic sea level, with mountains rising directly from the ocean palm-edged beaches.
“Though it’s difficult to reach from many parts of the world, once travellers get there they can dive in World War II wrecks, explore old-growth rain forests, and paddle one of the world’s longest subterranean rivers at Puerto Princesa,” wrote Clemence.
With Palawan’s irresistible beauty, no wonder travellers from around the world are captivated by it.
Clemence quoted one fan of the island saying, “The landscape and scenery are just gorgeous, it offers the most beautiful beaches, resorts, and scenery anywhere.”
The Department of Tourism – Philippines celebrated the hailing of Palawan as it reclaimed the Best Island in the World title.
“It’s wonderful to see that our rehabilitation and sustainable development efforts last year, especially in El Nido and Coron, were well-received by tourists everywhere,” said Tourism Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat.
The beautiful Boracay island also made it to the Top 25 list at 14th place.
The award-winning island of Palawan was also named among “The 50 Most Popular Destinations For Post-Lockdown Travel”, ranked the 20th Best Beach in the World by Condé Nast Traveller, and was one of the top picks of the “Most Instagrammable Places In The World”.
