Marcelito Pomoy sang and talked about his many causes as he guested on CNN Philippines’ The Final Word with Rico Hizon.
The 3rd runner up winner on America’s Got Talent: Champions sang the chorus part of Michael Jackson’s “Heal the World” during his interview as the virtual guest on the CNN Senior Anchor’s news program on May 7, 2020.
The Filipino singer who gained world fame for effortlessly switching between tenor and soprano voices as he sang operatic pop songs was interviewed by Rico Hizon about his many charitable acts during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Pomoy had recently built a new home for an elderly woman living alone in a makeshift shanty house.
The Pilipinas Got Talent Grand Winner revealed in the interview how Nanay Aurora of Quezon reminded him of his younger days without a mother.
“Opo talagang naantig po kasi ang puso ko noong nakita ko po iyong bahay ni Nanay. Actually sir noong hindi pa po lockdown nagbibigay na po talaga ako ng mga relief. And then, ito pong pinakahuling bigay ko po ito pong bahay ni nanay na nakita ko po talagang walang-wala si nanay,” said Pomoy.
(Yes, it really touched my heart when I saw the house. Actually sir before the lockdown I was already distributing relief goods. During my last distribution, I saw the house of Aurora. She was absolutely destitute in her dilapidated house.)
Pomoy added that when he saw the poor situation of Nanay Aurora he was reminded of his life before he found fame as a singer.
“Doon ko po na-realize na kailangan kong tulungan itong taong ito dahil nakikita ko rin sa kaniya ang pagiging nanay. Kaya wala po di ako nag-dalawang isip na suportahan siya”
(That’s when I realized I needed to help this woman because I also saw her as a mother. So, I didn’t have to think twice to help her)
Pomoy and his family have been distributing relief goods to Pinoys affected by the lockdown in their Municipality. Many of them lost their jobs due to the lockdown brought by the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
“Hindi kami nagdadalawang-isip na puntahan iyong mga bahay-bahay nangangailangan ng tulong dahil sa sitwasyon natin. So, kami na mismo ang gumawa ng paraan para maihatid sa kanila ‘yung mga relief goods at makakain naman sila nang maayos,” Pomoy added.
Pomoy also shared that even if it is his birthday he would also give back the blessings he received to those who really need it.
“Iyon po ‘yung regalo na bigay sa akin ng Diyos ngayon, kaya sobrang pasasalamat ko sa Diyos dahil binigyan niya ako ng ganitong talent”
(This is a gift given to me by God. I am really thankful to God for giving me this talent)
Before singing the chorus part of “Heal The World”, Pomoy thanked those who helped them distributing relief goods and offered a little prayer.
“Ipinagdarasal ko na sana matapos na itong lockdown na ito. Mawala na sana itong pandemic na ito”
(I am praying that this lockdown and this pandemic will soon come to an end)
In his YouTube channel, Pomoy posted a cover of Michael Jackson’s “Heal the World” as a healing song for COVID-19 victims. He sang the same song in a duet with his daughter for a Facebook Live concert fundraiser.
He has been giving back his blessings to his compatriots and giving away essential supplies for the babies of families under lockdown.
