Eva Macapagal Super Terminal located at Port area in Manila has been turned into a comfortable and easily accessible quarantine facility for overseas Filipinos arriving in the country amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.
The facility was set-up to accommodate repatriated seafarers and OFWs who are required to undergo a mandatory 14-day quarantine.
The quarantine facility will operate alongside the COVID-19 treatment facility that will accommodate patients with mild, advanced, and severe symptoms.
The fully air-conditioned COVID-19 treatment facility has a total of 211 cubicles distributed in different zones fitted with airtight doors to prevent aerosols containing the COVID-19 virus from spreading.
It also has hospital beds, portable toilets, cargo containers for showers, and open-air dining facilities.
Patients can also enjoy sunlight and fresh ocean breeze as the facility is equipped with sufficient doors and windows.
Outside the facility is a Nurse’s station with plastic barrier views of the inside to minimize the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
The Department of Transportation (DOTr) announced the completion of the facility on April 21, 2020, with the help of the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA), the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), and the Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA), and in cooperation with the Lopez Group of Companies which donated PhP100 million funding support, 2GO and Asian Terminals Inc. (ATI).
Manila’s popular event centers – the Rizal Memorial Coliseum, Philippine International Convention Center (PICC), and World Trade Center (WTC) have also been converted into Emergency Quarantine Facilities (EQF) for COVID-19 patients with the help of the members of the Philippine Constructors Association (PCA).
As the World Trade Center (WTC) is being prepared as COVID-19 health facility, the Manila Water Foundation has stepped up to provide water supply.
San Miguel Corporation (SMC) has donated high-capacity COVID-19 machines and test kits to boost the testing capacity of the country by 11,000 per day.
