Sorsogon’s two-in-one road and dike project for the Ariman-Panganiban Coastal Road and Shore Protection has been completed, providing another-two-in-one treat of a scenic sea view travel as barangays in Gubat town are protected.
The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) announced on January 28, 2020, the completion of the 374-linear meter road dike that protects coastal barangays of Panganiban, Pinontingan, and Ariman in the town of Gubat from storm surges.
The same road dike provides an alternative road to motorists and tourists as it showcases a scenic view of the coast of the Pacific Ocean on the Bicol Peninsula which offers surfing and beach combing to tourists.
The DPWH said the dike road was actually completed by the DPWH Regional Office 5 in October 2019 with Php 96.50 million funded by 2018 General Appropriations Act. The project also covers provisions of shoulder, lined canal, rock and earthworks, guardrails, slope protection, and deflector.
The road and dike infrastructure addresses the need to avoid what happened five years ago when Sorsogon was hit by Typhoon Ruby (Hagupit) and destroyed houses left empty by residents. In December 2019, the eye of Typhoon Kammuri (Tisoy) made a landfall over Gubat town in Sorsogon and brought violent winds and intense rains.
More infrastructure projects recently opened in the Philippines, among them, the new Labi Bridge connecting Aurora to Nueva Ecija that provides better and safer travel for motorists, the two-lane 770-meter Kalibo Bridge located on the boundaries of Barangay Tigayon, Kalibo and Barangay Mina, Lezo in Aklan opened that is expected to cut travel time of tourists going to the world-famous Boracay Island, and South Cotabato’s five newly completed infrastructure projects expected to improve access and productivity for small-scale farmers in Lake Sebu.
SEND CHEERS in the comments below to the people and travelers in Sorsogon for newly built road dike with as scenic sea view!
