The Philippine islands in Tubbataha and Cebu have gained recommendations from popular travel guide Lonely Planet for being spectacular scuba diving sites.
The Southeast Asian nation’s national park in Palawan was cited by Lonely Planet as among six of the best among over 3,000 national parks in the world that offer adventurous and splendid scuba diving sites.
The Philippine archipelago has 7,641 islands that offer more than 1,200 enchanting macro and pelagic species that live in the nation’s waters, says the travel site.
Lonely Planet particularly recommended the rich biodiversity of the Tubbataha Reefs National Park in the Palawan Islands which earned it the UNESCO World Heritage Site status.
The guide recommends experiencing the astonishing 600 species of fish, 360 species of coral, 11 species of sharks and 13 species of dolphins and whales, along with manta rays, barracuda, nudibranchs, pipefish, and seahorses, through a liveaboard trip in Puerto Princesa City that would take travelers to dive destinations such as the Amos Rock, Washing Machine, and Black Rock.
If a live-aboard is beyond your budget, Lonely Planet suggests Moalboal in Cebu with its “bangka” traditional double outrigger canoe.
“Moalboal is world-renowned for its sardine run, an enormous bait ball of approximately seven million small fish that attract larger marine life in search of food,” writes Angela Ballard.
Truly, the Philippines never fails to amaze the world with its natural beauty and
hidden treasures!
Lonely Planet has also recommended Palawan as one of the best travel destinations in the Asia Pacific and both Palawan and Cebu have been notes among Asia’s best islands.
The Philippines has been acknowledged as a topnotch global diving destination and has earned recognition from the 2019 World Travel Awards.
