London-based Filipino Lee Johnson and his Irish partner Sinead Campbell recently bagged a hefty investment from the BBC reality show “My Million Pound Menu,” for their food stall BBQ Dreamz.
During the show, Johnson and Campbell impressed the judges with their signature lechon kawali and adobo glazed chicken wings and secured £350,000 or around P24 million in the British Broadcasting Corporation emerging food businesses program.
The hefty prize money will surely go a long way in expanding their business in London, as Johnson and Campbell hope to bring Filipino food to a wider audience in London.
Established in 2014, BBQ Dreamz serves dishes inspired by the Filipino recipes Johnson learned from his grandmother while growing up.
Johnson moved from the Philippines to the United Kingdom when he was eight, while Campbell hails from Tuam, Galway. They met 13 years ago in university.
BBQ Dreamz can be found at the popular KERB street food markets all over London. People can get their Filipino food fix from BBQ Dreamz at their Paddington site on Wednesdays, West India Quays on Thursdays and King’s Cross Granary Square on Fridays. On Saturdays, BBQ Dreamz cooks at Brockley Market.
