Filipino teenage champion Yuka Saso made a strong showing at the prestigious inaugural Augusta National Women’s Amateur tournament, finishing 3rd overall on the world’s most venerated gold course.
The first Filipina to bag 2 Asian Games golds in 2018, was invited to play at the historic Georgia event which gathered the best women amateur golf players from around the world for the historic first women’s event in the traditionally-all male golf enclave.
Out of 72 players in the first round, Saso finished at 17th, and performed excellently through the 2nd round, earning a spot among the best 30 in the final round held April 6.
Augusta Chronicle reports the 17-year-old Yuka Saso (69) tied in third place with 21-year-old Jessica Yasuda (72) at the Sunday finals which was won by Jennifer Kupcho who finished first, and Maria Fassi in 2nd place.
Yuka Saso gears up next to play for the title at the Women’s Amateur Asia-Pacific golf championship in Japan on April 25-28.
