“M-FLIX: Da Pinoy Pandemic Palabas” is set to go live on YouTube on Saturday, November 6, with Act 1 of the two-part online musical which brings together excellent music artists the likes of Morisette, Basil Valdez, The Itchyworms, The CompanY, Ogie Alcasid, Pinopela, Joanna Ampil, Bukas Palad Choir, Joey Ayala, Mark Bautista, Nicole Asensio, Bituin Escalante, Klarisse de Guzman, Jed Madela, Rony Fortich, Davey Langit, Tim Pavino, and Raki Vega.
M-FLIX is the 2021 virtual version of the Pinoy Playlist Music Festival (PPMF), the annual music gathering curated by National Artist for Music Maestro Ryan Cayabyab, The CompanY’s leader Moy Ortiz, and media man Noel Ferrer – the same three movers of the “Sana Naman, Taumbayan” unity song for Philippine elections.
This year, the Bonifacio Art Foundation Inc (BAFI) which operates the BGC Arts Center, The Mind Museum, the BGC Public Art Program, and Mind S-Cool (online and TV) is producing M-FLIX as the unique online persona of PPMF. Long-time PPMF collaborator Sun Life Foundation co-presents.
M-FLIX 2021: Da Pinoy Pandemic Palabas mainly consists of 12 original songs and a medley of all 12 songs, all connected by animated shorts illustrating the pandemic experience of Filipinos.
Each original song is hooked on the following emotional pillars: gulat, takot, pagka-gipit, malikhaing pagtugon, pangamba, pagtuklas, malasakit, pananagutan, pag-alala, pasasalamat, pagbangon, at pagmumuni.
Each recorded performance was edited to give rise to unique video formats, blended to produce a seamless musical offering by Stephen Viñas. The animations, created by Aidon Panlaqui, serve to introduce and graphically depict the theme of each song that follows it.
The Filipino songwriters for M-FLIX 2021’s Da Pinoy Pandemic Palabas are Maestro Ryan Cayabyab, Louie Ocampo, Ogie Alcasid, Joey Ayala, Davey Langit, Moy Ortiz, Edith Gallardo, Krina Cayabyab Viñas, Jude Gitamondoc, and Fr. Manoling Francisco. The entr’acte will be a creative weaving of parts of all the songs into a musical quilt by Rony Fortich. Some of the renowned composers collaborated with creative lyricists namely Noel Ferrer, Floy Quintos, Jose Javier Reyes, and Therese Marie Villarante.
“We wanted to come up with a unique Pinoy musical form, given that we cannot stage musicals now, that would mainly acknowledge the emotions that we all felt during these times AND capture them all as a way of expressing our continuing and deepest gratitude to our fellow Filipinos, most especially, our ‘frontliners’, says Maria Isabel Garcia, Managing Director/Curator of the Bonifacio Art Foundation, Inc, who worked with the 3 other PPMF curators to conceptualize and operationalize this special project.
“We wanted all original songs by Filipino composers/lyricists for M-FLIX Da Pinoy Pandemic Palabas because we who experienced the pandemic here in the Philippines have collective feelings and insights about it. We wanted to harvest all that as way for music to move us forward from these darkest of times. My own compositions here came from those dark moments that still led me to create for example, ‘Tayong Mga Pilipino’,” says Maestro Ryan Cayabyab.
Indeed he did, as Tayong Mga Pilipino’s resounding lyrics goes: “tayong mga Pilipino, tumitindig kahit kapos, sumusugod, lumulusob, hindi tayo patataob, nagmamahalan tayo, nagmamalasakit tayo, sa kapwa Pilipino!”
M-FLIX 2021 Da Pinoy Pandemic Palabas will be released in two acts. Act 1 will premiere on November 6 and Act 2 will be on November 13, both at 7:00 P.M., on MIND S-COOL YouTube Channel.
