Filipino designed solar lamps from the Liter of Light that were hand-built by media celebrities and executives for donation to communities without electricity are featured on the viral ABS-CBN Christmas Station I.D., helping illustrate the theme “Ikaw Ang Liwanag At Ligaya (You are the Light and Joy)”.
The 2020 edition of the annual Christmas video of the popular media network released on December 1, 2020, quickly went viral racking up millions of views within days of its posting on YouTube and other social media platforms.
Filipino social enterprise Liter of Light’s blue bottle lamps powered by solar panels were seen on the video being built by the network’s talents and officials and donated to communities. The solar lamps were also used to form the Christmas message of “Light and Joy”.
During the International Day of Light in 2019, ABS-CBN’s G Diaries host Gina Lopez led a project collaboration with the Liter of Light to have the network’s talents and workforce create the solar lamps for donation to remote communities in the Philippines. Their solar message then was “Love”.
The renewed collaboration in 2020 between ABS-CBN and Liter of Light had solar lamps creating the new message about shining the light for other people.
Liter of Light’s internationally-awarded founder Illac Diaz took to social media to recall the collaborative messages.
“Very Proud that A Liter of Light (Isang Litrong Liwanag) has shared its solar bottle lights with ABS-CBN Broadcasting Center for their Christmas Station ID.
This brings lots of wonderful memories of our partnership with Gina Lopez PH Everyone can be a (solar) light for others,” said the Edison Awardee and ASEAN Champion Illac Diaz.
ABS-CBN explains the inspiration of its 2020 Christmas message amid the Covid 19 pandemic:
“There is a light inside all of us that never goes out. It will keep on burning no matter how dark the times have become because of the trials that test our spirit. This Christmas, we remember that God is this inexhaustible source, and the goodness He instilled in us will inspire us to pass on His light to others until our collective light wins and brings us real joy.”
The video also features many heartwarming stories that the media network says “will spark hope that a joyful Christmas is possible despite the challenges of the year 2020.”
The Liter of Light on Bonifacio Day, November 30, assembled its solar lamps at the Rizal Park in Manila to create a giant solar Philippine flag as a tribute to Filipino medical frontliners around the world that followed its Good Light Message of Hope campaign with Good News Pilipinas.
The 3,000 lights used for the solar artwork were hand-built by volunteer celebrities-turned-solar-engineers while staying at home during the quarantine as they accepted the Light it Forward Challenge, an APSIPA-awarded project with GoodNewsPilipinas.com and the Rotary Club of Makati Business District. The lamps will eventually be donated to communities without electricity.
