K-Pop superstars BTS praised Filipino singer Ysabelle Cuevas for her “really awesome” song cover of the boy band’s hit “Boy With Luv” which was featured in Glamour Magazine’s online series.
Ysabelle Cuevas’ song cover with over 2 million views was included in the video where BTS members watched and reacted to fan covers released on October 29, 2020, as part of Glamour’s “You Sang My Song” YouTube series.
The K-pop superstars were presented with several song covers from international fans, including “Dynamite,” “Black Swan,” “Idol,” “Boy With Luv” and “Fake Love.”
The BTS members were impressed with the 24-year-old Filipina’s English cover of their lead single which was originally uploaded on Cuevas’ YouTube channel back in 2019.
“I love this. Yeah, the arrangement is fantastic…it does feel like I’m flying through the sky,” J-Hope praised.
“She did such a good job,” V said. “This is really awesome. She did this so well,” he added.
“She has great talent and energy,” Jimin stated.
All seven members had something good to say about the Filipina’s fan cover. J-Hope and V even vowed to find Cuevas’ rendition and “listen to it again” after the Glamour segment.
Ysabelle Cuevas turned emotional after watching her own K-pop idols react to her video.
“I’m going to start crying…I love their songs so much and I think they have so much meaning to them that it doesn’t always translate with people who are not familiar with the language. That’s why I started doing (English) covers,” Cuevas explained.
The Filipina singer is a longtime fan of the boy band and was YG Entertainment’s Grand Prize winner in an online song cover competition in July. Cuevas’ music is currently under record label Warner Music Philippines.
“Keep being awesome. You inspire so many people out there,” she said. “And you literally have put me through some hard times through life, and I’m grateful for it. I love you guys so much. Thank you. Oh my gosh.”
Ysabelle Cuevas is known for her self-titled YouTube channel with more than 2 million subscribers, where she posts song covers and her original music. One of her song covers already got noticed by a member of another famous K-pop group, Taeyang of Big Bang, who later invited her to sing at a concert in Los Angeles, California.
The boys of BTS also reacted to Filipino dance group Mastermind’s cover of their newest record-breaking hit ‘Dynamite’ in August.
Other K-pop superstars who praised Filipino talent include BLACKPINK’s Lisa who was shocked by Ella Cruz and SB NewGen’s dance routine while Red Velvet’s Wendy was awed at Ben&Ben’s “Beautiful” singing voice.
