Virtual tour guide Henri Abued Manzano is showcasing the United Nations Headquarters in Vienna to guests in the comfort of their own homes.
The Filipino is among the 20 tour guides who continue to provide service to the UN headquarters at the Vienna International Centre with its shift to online tours in the midst of the global pandemic.
“We quickly decided that if visitors can’t come to us, we will have to come to them,” says Johanna Kleinert, Chief of the UN Information Service Vienna’s Visitors Service.
Manzano creates his tour videos from a makeshift broadcasting room in his own home’s living room.
In his work-from-home setup, Manzano produced a Global Goals video tour on YouTube, explaining the UN’s process of completing and meeting the 10th Sustainable Development Goal: Reduced Inequalities, which pertains to the phasing out of socioeconomic, gender, and racial inequality.
The Vienna International Centre normally receives about 50,000 guests in a year. These visitors come to know the organizations based there, as well as the progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals.
While guided tours are still off the menu as Austria has tallied 16,843 infection cases as of the June 6 World Health Organization report, Manzano and the UN virtual tour guides will continue to accommodate interactive online tours.

Another site providing virtual tours is the Philippines’ own Walled City of Intramuros which offers tours on the virtual reality platform of Google Arts & Culture.
The Intramuros Administration also commemorated its 41st Anniversary by playing a series of videos as tributes to the country’s historical figures.
