The University of Santo Tomas (UST) has made history as the first Philippine university to score a 5-star rating in the prestigious Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) Stars rating system.
UST received five stars for Teaching, Employability, Internationalization, and Facilities in the third review cycle of its QS Stars application.
For the Specialist Criteria, QS also gave a 5-Star rating to the university’s Doctor of Medicine program which posted a perfect score in graduate employability and high scores in completion rate as well as student satisfaction and accreditation.
As a five-star institution, UST is regarded by the QS Stars Rating System as enjoying a high reputation and is generally world-class in a broad range of areas, and possesses cutting-edge facilities and internationally renowned research and teaching faculty.
The oldest existing university in both the Philippines and Asia also received four stars for Academic Development and three stars for Arts and Culture and Inclusiveness.
“The QS 5 Stars methodology focuses on at least eight out of thirteen criteria against which University performance are rated,” UST reported.
The QS Stars is a rating system by the Intelligence Unit at Quacquarelli Symonds, the world’s leading provider of analytics to the global higher education sector. It provides a detailed look at universities’ performance and qualities, looking at various criteria such as teaching, employability of graduates, on-campus and online learning environments, internationalization, and inclusiveness.
UST’s results in the QS Stars Rating System were first communicated on June 25, 2021, and are valid until June 25, 2024.
UST, alongside the University of the Philippines (UP), Ateneo de Manila University, and De La Salle University (DLSU) retained their leadership among the Philippines’ higher educational institutions in the 2022 edition of the QS World University Rankings.
UST also ranked high in the QS WUR Top Universities rankings in 2019 and 2020.
