UPeepz showcased Philippine heritage in music and dance in their last performance on NBC’s World of Dance (WOD).
After winning The Duels in July, the Filipino dance crew went on to appear in the WOD’s Season 4 semifinals show on August 12, 2020, garbed in Philippine fabric and danced the Singkil and Tinikling to the tune of Filipino-American Apl.de.Ap’s song with Black Eyed Peas about Filipino women, “Bebot”.
UPeepz went on social media to thank their supporters for appreciating their dance routine’s Filipino flavor.
“Always honored to bring Filipino identity & culture to the international stage. We infused Singkil and Tinikling with our own flavor to pay tribute to our Maranao and Leyte brothers and sisters!” UPeepz posted.
The hip-hop dance champions from the Philippines’ dance video was posted by WOD social media and captioned with, “Their passion for dance shines through”.
Judge Jennifer Lopez was wowed by their performance.
“You guys are a strong group, that’s why you’re here. You really feel like a crew and that’s what I like about the big groups. You know, when they really are good, they all dance almost as one, which I love,” Lopez said.
Judge Derek Hough praised the group’s infusion of Filipino culture in their performance.
“You guys just like ooze passion. I just feel your passion for dance so much and I love the fact that you brought in your culture into this piece,” Hough said.
Judge Ne-Yo also had good things to say. “I love when the fans came out. The part that threw me was the bamboo part, but the things that I’ve come to know and appreciate you guys for was all there.”
The Filipino dance group received an average score of 89 but did not make it to the finals.
In 2019, the group’s sister junior dance crew VPeepz won their WOD Division Finals.
