The University of the Philippines (UP) has kept its position as the top Philippine university in Asia’s Top 100 and is leading the country’s 15 higher educational institutions (HEIs) that made it to the 2022 Quacquarelli Symonds World University Rankings (QS WUR) Asia.
The Philippines’ premier state university system ranked 77th among 687 universities in Asia topped by the National University of Singapore. UP was ranked 69th in Asia in the 2021 QS Asia edition.
The only Philippine university in the Top 500 of the QS World Rankings also leads the 15 local HEIs included in the list. Cebu Technological University joins the 2022 edition as an addition to the 14 universities ranked in 2021.
The QS WUR Asia rankings released on November 2, 2021, include the following Philippine universities:
- University of the Philippines (77, down from 69)
- Ateneo de Manila University (124, up from 135)
- De La Salle University (160, up from 166)
- University of Santo Tomas (177, up from 186)
- Ateneo de Davao University (501-550, retained)
- Mapúa University (501-550, retained)
- Silliman University (501-550, retained)
- Mindanao State University – Iligan Institute of Technology (551-600, retained)
- Central Luzon State University (601-650, up from 601+)
- Xavier University (601-650, up from 601+)
- Adamson University (651+, down from 601+)
- Cebu Technological University (651+, new entry)
- Central Mindanao University (651+, down from 601+)
- Central Philippine University (651+, down from 601+)
- Lyceum of the Philippines University (651+, down from 601+)
The QS Asia University Rankings evaluates university performance using 11 indicators: Academic reputation (30%), Employer reputation (20%), Faculty to Student ratio (10%), International research network (10%), Citations per paper (10%) and papers per faculty (5%), Staff with a doctorate degree (5%), Proportion of international faculty (2.5%) and proportion of international students (2.5%), Proportion of inbound exchange students (2.5%) and proportion of outbound exchange students (2.5%).
