UP Leads 25 Philippine Universities in QS Asia Rankings 2025

The University of the Philippines (UP) continues to lead Philippine higher education in the 2025 QS Asia University Rankings. This year marks UP’s 13th consecutive year as the nation’s top-ranked university since Philippine schools first joined the list in 2012.

UP ranked 86th out of 984 institutions in Asia and 20th in Southeast Asia, retaining its leadership despite a slight drop from its 78th position in the 2024 rankings. It also upheld its status as the highest-ranking Philippine school in the QS World University Rankings 2025.

UP scored 60.6 overall, excelling in key metrics: Employer Reputation (94.4), International Research Network (87.1), and Academic Reputation (83), which collectively highlight its global and regional prestige.

Following UP are the other “Big Four” universities which also dropped in their rankings: Ateneo de Manila University (from 137th to 142nd), De La Salle University (from 154th to 163rd), and the University of Santo Tomas (from 179th to 181st).

Growing Recognition for Philippine HEIs

The number of ranked Philippine universities increased from 16 in 2024 to 25 in the 2025 QS Asia University Rankings released on November 6, 2024, with several institutions making their debut, including Central Mindanao University, Cebu Technological University, Central Luzon State University, Central Philippine University, West Visayas State University, Angeles University Foundation, University of Southeastern Philippines, University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines, and University of Southern Mindanao. This growth underscores the expanding global recognition of Filipino educational excellence.

Peking University topped the rankings with a perfect score of 100. The 25 local HEIs appear on the ranking created with criteria similar to that used for the QS World University Rankings (QS WUR) but with additional indicators and adapted weightings designed to reflect key priorities for universities in Asia as assessed by regional experts and stakeholders. The rankings are based on scores for academic reputation, employer reputation, faculty-student ratio, faculty-staff with Ph.D., papers per faculty, citations per paper, international research network, international faculty, international students, inbound exchange, and outbound exchange.
