UP Fighting Maroons championship team member Ricci Rivero ranked No. 1 on Google Philippines’ Top 10 Most Searched Male Personalities in the year 2022.

The 24-year-old college basketball standout led the Google Philippines Search list, surpassing professional athletes Filipino American Gilas Pilipinas and NBA player Jordan Clarkson (No. 8) and Spaniard Juancho Hernangomez of the Toronto Raptors (No. 6).

The FIBA star edged out international celebrities Johnny Depp (No. 2), Chris Rock (No. 5), Andrew Garfield (No. 9), at Adam Levine (No. 10) in the Year in Search 2022, a compilation of Top 10 lists that Filipinos searched for this year, released on December 7 by Google.

Rivero, who has also been into acting and modeling, eclipsed Korean actors Park Solomon of All of Us Are Dead (No. 3) and Business Proposal’s Ahn Hyo-seop (No. 7), as well as Filipina TikTok star Bella Poarch’s ex-husband, Tyler Poarch (No. 4).

The University of the Philippines graduate figured prominently in the successful campaign of the UP Men’s Basketball Team to wrest the championship away from the Ateneo Blue Eagles during the University Athletics Association of the Philippines (UAAP) Season 84 Finals earlier this year. The ongoing UAAP Season 85 will again pit both university ball clubs against each other in the finals.

Rivero also made headlines when he pledged that for every basket he makes for the UP squad during his last year at the UAAP he will match the point with cash donations for UP jeepney Ikot drivers who lost their livelihoods during the COVID-19 pandemic. He eventually raised nearly 200 thousand pesos.

Ricci Rivero signed up to play professionally for the Taoyuan Pilots of the Taiwan Professional Basketball League but had to cut his stint short after being injured during training. He is now back in the Philippines while recovering.
