The University of the Philippines (UP) maintains its stronghold as the top educational institution in the Philippines, according to the 2024 EduRank Best Universities list which considers factors such as the excellence of its academic publications, alumni prominence, and reference database.
UP Diliman holds the coveted No. 1 spot in the Philippines, reaffirming its status as the flagship campus of the UP System. Notably, three UP constituent universities claim spots in the Top 10, with UP Diliman leading the pack. UP Los Baños secures the 5th rank, while UP Manila follows closely at 6th place.
The rankings showcase UP’s excellence across various disciplines. UP Diliman, for instance, excels in research areas like Wildlife and Fisheries Management, Civil Engineering, and Media Studies, among several other areas. Similarly, UP Los Baños leads in fields such as Forestry, Horticulture, and Agricultural Science. Meanwhile, UP Manila tops in Neurosurgery, Family Medicine, and Cancer Research, among many others, highlighting the university’s diverse academic strengths.
Other UP constituent universities also shine on the EduRank list. UP Visayas, UP Baguio, and UP Mindanao secure positions in the Top 50, further solidifying UP’s reputation as a hub for academic excellence nationwide.

UP Diliman, the flagship campus of the UP System, is ranked the No. 1 in the Philippines. EduRank placed UPD in 374th rank out of 5,830 HEIs in Asia. It is the 1,367th university out of 14,131 higher educational institutions worldwide.
The UP report on its EduRank placement indicates UP Diliman published 8,902 scientific papers cited 91,432 times by researchers and institutions in other research and academic works. UP Diliman is the top university in the country in terms of research works in Wildlife and Fisheries Management and Conservation, Hydrology and Water Resource Management, Oceanography, Earth Science and Geophysics, Geology, Urban and Regional Planning, Meteorology and Atmospheric Science, Civil Engineering, Landscape Architecture, Electronic Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Microbiology, Genetics, Theoretical Physics, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Biochemistry, Broadcast Journalism, Media Studies, Public Policy or Administration, Archaeology, History, and Political Science, and many others.
UP Los Baños (PH #5, Asia #869, World #2761)
EduRank ranks UPLB as the 5th in the country, the 869th university in Asia, and the 2,761st higher education institution in the world. It also ranks 340th out of 1,031 institutions in Agricultural Engineering, and the 590th of 2,377 in Forestry.
UP Los Baños published 4,522 papers which were cited 60,629 times in other research works. EduRank rated UPLB as the top school in the country for research in Forestry, Horticulture, Entomology, Agricultural Science, Toxicology, Animal Science, Zoology, Nutrition and Food Science, and Botany.
UP Manila (PH #6, Asia #927, World #2927)
UP Manila, the UP System’s Health Sciences Center, ranked 6th in the Philippines, 927th in Asia, and 2927th in the world.
UPM produced a total of 4,803 scientific papers, which were cited 78,551 times in other research works. Leading other universities in the country in Medicine studies, it is also the top school for research in its fields, such as Neurosurgery, Epidemiology, Pediatrics, Health Management, Optometry, Family Medicine, Surgery, Dermatology, Immunology, Pathology, Oncology and Cancer Research, Dentistry and Physical Therapy. Beyond Medicine and its Allied Professions, UP Manila also leads other universities in the country with research works on Occupational Safety and Health, Demography, Psychiatry, and Neuroscience.
UP Visayas (PH #11, Asia #1970, World #5398)
The University of the Philippines Visayas with campuses in Western and Eastern Visayas produced 857 research papers which were cited 7,694 times in other scholarly works. The constituent university is ranked 1970th in Asia out of 5,830 institutions, and 5398th out of the world’s 14,131 universities and colleges.
UP Baguio (PH #28, Asia 2460, World #6494)
The University of the Philippines Baguio was placed in the 28th spot locally by EduRank. UPB produced 398 research works, which were cited 2,677 times. UPB is ranked 2,460th in Asia, and 6,494th in the world in terms of research outputs, citations, and prominence of its alumni.
UP Mindanao (PH #48, Asia 2837, World #7276)
The UP System’s constituent university in Mindanao is at 48th spot in the country’s top 100. EduRank notes UP Mindanao has produced a total of 292 research papers, which were cited by 2,138 scholarly works and academic institutions. UP Min ranks 2,837th in Asia and 7,276th in the world.

UP leads a total of 229 Philippine universities on the 2024 EduRank World’s Best Universities topped by Harvard University this year. The local Top 10 are the same as last year’s with a few placement switches. Joining the three UP campuses in the top 10 are De La Salle University Manila (2nd), Ateneo de Manila University (3rd), University of Santo Tomas (4th), University of San Carlos (7th), Asian Institute of Management (8th), Mapua University (9th), and Mindanao State University (10th).
The best universities were evaluated by EduRank based on research outputs (45%), non-academic prominence (45%), and alumni influence (10%). The Philippines’ best universities rankings were determined by analyzing 500K citations received by 58.8K academic publications made by 229 universities from the Philippines, the popularity of 1,093 recognized alumni, and the largest reference database available.
The Top Universities in Asia were determined by analyzing 437M citations received by 30.5M academic publications made by 5,830 universities from Asia, the popularity of 23,823 recognized alumni, and the largest reference database available.
The Top World Universities were determined by analyzing 2.15B citations received by 98.3M academic publications made by 14,131 universities from all over the world, the popularity of 214,167 recognized alumni, and the largest reference database available.
