What is the recipe for success? UP Cebu’s five minute video incorporates elements likeperseverance, faith and hard work all by using a traditional Cebuano rice preparation.
Rich with symbolism and vivid imagery, the institutional video uses rice “puso” (boiled rice packed in weaved coconut fronds) as a metaphor for education. The video took home an international award from the 5th QS-Maple Professional Leaders in Education Conference and Exhibit.
The UP Cebu video shows a mother struggling to send her son to college while preparing “puso,” effectively portraying the hardship for an average Pinoy to afford education.
Receiving overwhelming praise from the audience, it bagged the Most Creative Corporate Institution Video Award. The award was given personally to the video’s creative director early May in Doha, Qatar.
It was UP Cebu’s first time to win a golden award in the competition after previously receiving a nomination. Gregg Lloren, the video’s creative director, says the recognition inspires them to make more creative videos.
Prof. Ligaya Rabago played the role of the mother with members of the UP Cebu UPSTAGE theatre group cast in various roles. UP Cebu Dean Liza Corro is the executive producer. The UP Cebu video also shows UP students are “destined to serve.”
